Figure 2. Graph of Study Period for S1 Mechanical Engineering Education Students
Based on the table above, it shows that the average study period for undergraduate students of Mechanical Engineering Education from 2013 to 2017 shows a trend to be shorter than before with an average of 8.2 semesters. This is inseparable from the improvement of thesis administration management and service improvement that has been carried out by the Mechanical Engineering Department. Administrative management Improvements in the Mechanical Engineering Department are carried out by building a simulation support application, namely SIMME (Mechanical Engineering Management Information System). This system was built to improve the system management of internship and thesis administration services. Students can communicate with related parties about internship and thesis administration by this SIMME application. The SIMME feature provides several services including 1) internship, proposal and thesis supervisor registration, 2) thesis proposal seminar, 3) internship report and thesis seminar.
Head of Study Program can communicate with students effectively and efficiently by this SIMME application. The Head of Study Program can revise the submission of titles and supervisors that have been submitted by students, then after the student submission has been approved by the Head of Study Program, the Head of Study Program can make a letter to be further validated by the head of the department through SIMME. A letter issued by the Head of Study Program that has been approved by the head of the department automatically sent to the account of students, supervisors, examiners, and the Mechanical Engineering Department database. Administrative management can be carried out effectively and efficiently by SIMME. SIMME applications is easy to operate and able to be accessed anywhere. Students do not need to come to campus only for consult about the proposal titles, arrange letters for supervisor appointments, even asking the seminar schedules to all of the examiners.
In addition to improvements in management by making big data-based applications, the Department of Mechanical Engineering improves services in the field of internship administration, and thesis by providing 1 special day, Friday, which is all of the time are devoted only for internship report seminars, thesis proposal seminars, and thesis seminars. With this policy, the student's study period was shortened.
